About the investigator

Dr. Freudenberg-Hua is an associate professor of psychiatry, molecular medicine and genetics in the Feinstein Institutes’ Litwin-Zucker Alzheimer’s Research Center and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She is also an attending psychiatrist at the Geriatric Center at the Zucker Hillside Hospital.

Dr. Freudenberg-Hua received her medical degree from the University of Hamburg in Germany. Following clinical and research work in Medical Genetics at the University of Bonn School of Medicine, she completed her medical specialization in General and Geriatric Psychiatry at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.

For interest in research participation please call (516) 562-3492 or email [email protected]. For patients with memory problems and their care givers who would like to schedule a clinic appointment, please call (718) 470-8140.

Research focus

Dr. Freudenberg-Hua investigates the genetic factors of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease. She performs computational analyses comparing the genomes of patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease with the genomes of subjects who remain cognitively healthy even at exceptionally advanced age. Her work integrates information about genome function from large databases with genetic and medical data. When combined with clinical information, such genetic insights can not only improve disease risk prediction and diagnosis precision, but also lead to novel preventive and therapeutic measures against dementia.
